Antonio Fernandez Arimany, segreterio generale dell'ITU, l'International Triathlon Union, è stato nominato membro del Consiglio Internazionale di Arbitrato dello Sport (ICAS). Si siederà in consiglio a partire dal prossimo primo gennaio. Di seguito i dettagli.

 

ITU Secretary General appointed member of the International Council of Arbitration for Sport

ITU is pleased to announce that Secretary General Antonio Fernandez Arimany has been appointed as a Council Member of the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS) for its its next four-year term, which begins on 1 January 2019.
 
“We are delighted with this appointment of our Secretary General to the highest legal institution within the sport’s governing bodies, meaning that our voice will be heard and we can continue to pursue best practices and learn from the best in the world. We at ITU are extremely proud of having some of our Board Members serving in such prestigious international institutions, further proof that our good governance policies are well regarded and our members are internationally respected,” said Marisol Casado, ITU President and IOC Member.
 
“I want to extend our most sincere congratulations to Mr. Arimany for his extraordinary work on all legal affairs during the past years, which have led him to being appointed for this position”, she added.
 
Mr. Arimany is also the President of the Legal Consultative Group at ASOIF, and has extensive experience and expertise in the Olympic Movement having worked for the Athens Olympic and Paralympic Organising Committee and on several Olympic bids. Mr. Arimany has been Secretary General of ITU since December 2016. Before that, he was Director General from 2014 and, from 2010 to 2014, served as the Administration Legal and Finance Director.
 
ICAS is the governing body of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and manages its administration and finances. It is composed of twenty international judges and lawyers active in the judiciary, international arbitration and sports administration.
 
For the new terms, four members were appointed by the International Olympic Committee: Justice Yvonne Mokgoro (South Africa); Judge Patrick Robinson (Jamaica); Dr Elisabeth Steiner (Austria) and Judge Hanqin Xue (China), four by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC): Dr Abdullah Al Hayyan (Kuwait); Mr Scott Blackmun (USA); Mr John Coates (Australia) and Prof. Giulio Napolitano (Italy), three by the Association of the Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF): Mr Antonio Fernandez Arimany (Spain); Mr Mikael Rentsch (Switzerland/Swedenand) and one more to be appointed in the coming weeks; and one by the Association of International Olympic Winter Federations (AIOWF): Ms Corinne Schmidhauser (Switzerland).
 
These 12 members will then appoint the remaining eight ICAS members in November 2018. The elections for the positions of ICAS President, Vice-Presidents, and Division Presidents and their deputies will be held in May/June 2019.
 
The CAS is an independent institution, based in Lausanne, involved in the resolution of legal disputes in the field of sport through arbitration and mediation. The CAS jurisdiction is recognized by all Olympic sports federations and many non-Olympic federations. The CAS registers around 600 cases each year.
