Un nuovo evento mondiale in Italia è pronto ad arricchire il lungo elenco che nelle ultime stagioni ha dato lustro al calendario internazionale della multidisciplina italiano. Nella prossima stagione, infatti, si aggiungeranno le nevi delle Alpi piemontesi al mare di Caorle, Cagliari e Taranto, e al fascino della Città Eterna di Roma, ed ancora una volta il territorio italiano e le sue splendide bellezze faranno da cornice ad un grande evento internazionale.
Dopo Cogne (2013-2014), Flassin (2007), Brusson (2002) e i due anni nell'Altopiano di Asiago nel 2019 e 2020, i Mondiali di Winter Triathlon tornano in Italia. World Triathlon e la Federazione Triathlon, in sinergia con la Regione Piemonte, hanno avviato l'organizzazione dei World Triathlon Winter Championships Pragelato - Bardonecchia 2024. Appuntamento fissato per il 23, 24 e il 25 febbraio a Pragelato sulla pista di fondo che ha ospitato i Giochi Olimpici Invernali Torino 2006 con la rassegna iridata mondiale di Triathlon invernale che tornerà a dare lustro così alle nevi italiane. Il mondiale che assegnerà i titoli di specialità individuali, mixed, Partriathlon ed Age Group nel Triathlon e individuali, Paraduathlon e di categoria nel Duathlon.
I Mondiali Winter sono un ulteriore passo in avanti verso la valorizzazione e il riconoscimento dell'importanza che sta assumendo il Triathlon invernale all'interno del panorama della multidisciplina in Italia e segue l'organizzazione delle due edizioni (2023 e 2024) del Suzuki Winter Triathlon Circuit e la recente introduzione del Winter Triathlon all'interno del Trofeo CONI Winter che ha esordito nella manifestazione giovanile del Comitato Olimpico Italiano proprio a Pragelato, come evento dimostrativo, e sarà inserito nel programma sportivo dei giochi dal 2024.

L'evento inizierà venerdì 23 febbraio con i Campionati Mondiali invernali di Duathlon per Elite, U23 e Junior. Sabato 24 si svolgeranno i Campionati Age Group e Para Winter Duathlon, e i Campionati Elite, U23 e Junior di Winter Triathlon. L'ultimo giorno di gara, domenica 25 febbraio sono in programma i Campionati mondiali invernali di Triathlon Age Group, i Campionati mondiali di Paratriathlon e la Mixed Relay 2x di Elite e U23/Junior. Ulteriori dettagli saranno annunciati nelle prossime settimane.
Le iscrizioni per l'evento saranno aperte il prossimo 8 gennaio 2024.

Anche World Triathlon ha dato ufficialmente la notizia: Pragelato set to host the 2024 World Triathlon Winter Championships
World Triathlon is pleased to announce that the Executive Board has awarded the 2024 World Triathlon Winter Championships to Pragelato, in the region of Bardonecchia, Italy. The competition will take place on February 24-26 on the snow-covered mountains of the Alpine resort that played host of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.
“Pragelato's selection as the host city for the 2024 Winter Triathlon World Championships is a testament to the exceptional commitment of the organisers and the Italian Triathlon Federation to the winter version of our sport, coupled with its picturesque alpine setting that provides an ideal backdrop for such a thrilling competition. The town's passion for the winter sports and their welcoming nature will set the perfect scenario for our athletes to shine once again”, said World Triathlon President and IOC Member, Marisol Casado.
The return of the Winter Triathlon World Championships to Italy four years after hosting it for the last time is not only a celebration of the nation's enduring love for winter sports but also a recognition of the Italian Triathlon Federation's dedication to organizing world-class events.

As athletes from around the globe prepare to converge on Bardonecchia in 2024, the event promises to showcase the pinnacle of winter triathlon excellence. Competitors will navigate the snow-covered landscapes, showcasing their prowess in running, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing, creating a spectacle that captures the true essence of winter sports athleticism.
The event will kick-off on Friday with the Winter Duathlon World Championships for Elite, U23 and Junior athletes. This format duathlon consists of running and cross-country skiing, and for the elite races the athletes are expected to complete each discipline two times, starting with a run.
On Saturday, the day Will start with the Age-Group and Para Winter Duathlon Championships, that will be followed by the Elite, U23 and Junior Winter Triathlon Championships. At the 25th edition of the Winter Triathlon World Championships, the Elite, U23 and Junior athletes will do the usual 8 km run on the snow, 14 km of MTB also on the snow and 12 km of cross-country skiing. But they will have to do five transitions, two laps of each section. For the Age Group and Para athletes, they will perform as per usual, doing only half of the distance and the usual two transitions before crossing the finish line.
On the final day of competition, Sunday, the schedule includes the Age-Group Standard distance World Triathlon Winter Championships; the Para Winter Triathlon World Championships and the 2x2 Winter Triathlon Mixed Relay for Elites and U23/Juniors. Further details will be announced in the upcoming weeks, and entries for the event will be open on January 8, 2024.
