ITU President, Marisol Casado, re-elected to ASOIF Council

ITU President and IOC member Marisol Casado has been re-elected to the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations’ (ASOIF) Council. In the General Assembly hosted during Sport Accord in the Gold Coast (Australia), Casado received 19 votes to secure a second term in the Council.

The ASOIF Council is composed of a President and six Members, all from different International Federations and elected for 4-year terms. Seven candidates were standing for three seats available in this elections, with Ms. Casado, Morinari Watanabe, President of the International Gymnastics Federation with 18 votes and and Ingmar De Vos, President of the International Equestrian Federation, with 15 votes, being elected in the first round of voting.

The newly elected Council members will join World Archery President Uğur Erdener, International Association of Athletics Federation President Sebastien Coe and United World Wrestling President Nenad Lalovic, under the presidency of Francesco Ricci Bitti. Tasks of the Council include to prepare, conduct and manage the General Assembly as well as to implement the decisions and resolutions taken by it.

After the voting, Ms. Casado, the only female member of the ASOIF Council, said: “I am extremely proud and honoured to serve another term as a Council member of ASOIF, making sure that we keep on working close with the members federations, and also with the IOC and the Organising Committees of the Olympic Games”.

“I am absolutely committed to making this responsibility my duty. It is only with our constant work and dedication that we keep on developing our sports and engaging with the society as we move forward, as ASOIF has been doing with great commitment under the presidency of Ricci Bitti, and as it is reflected in the ASOIF’s report on the “Future of Global Sport. We as IFs under the umbrella of ASOIF need to reinforce our role as the interactions with both public authorities and private business continue to grow, and make sure that we continue driving the sports world in the near future”.
