2018 ITU New Orleans World Cup cancelled

The 2018 ITU New Orleans World Cup and Paratriathlon World Cup, due to take place next April, have been cancelled. The Local Organising Committee and the USA Triathlon have informed ITU that despite their best efforts to continue with the planned event, they have decided to cancel on the risk of producing an event that didn’t live up to our standards.

“Despite our best efforts to try to find a solution to keep the New Orleans World Cup in the calendar for this year, we all agreed that it was best to cancel with enough time for athletes and coaches to plan the season. We deeply regret the inconvenience this cancellation causes” said ITU Secretary General, Antonio Fernandez Arimany.

The second-tier events for ITU, World Cups, will have a new and revamped calendar in 2018, with now 17 races across the globe. First stop will be Cape Town in February, and last one will be in Miyazaki (Japan) in November, with all kinds of scenarios for races in Sprint, Olympic and Semi-finals and Final formats.
